SurveyCraft AI User Guide
Welcome to SurveyCraft AI, your assistant for Chapter 2: Survey Design & Questionnaire Writing. This tool helps you generate unbiased Likert-scale items based on your research constructs.
1. What is a Construct?
A construct is an abstract idea, theory, or behavior you want to measure (e.g., Motivation, Reading Anxiety, Perceived Usefulness). Because it is abstract, you cannot measure it directly. You must define it.
2. Operational Definitions
An operational definition explains exactly how you will measure the construct in your specific study. A good definition provides clear boundaries for the AI to generate accurate questions.
3. Avoiding Common Mistakes
- Double-Barreled Questions: Asking two things at once.
Bad: "The AI tool is fast and accurate." (What if it is fast but inaccurate?)
- Leading Questions: Pushing the respondent toward a specific answer.
Bad: "Do you agree that AI is an amazing tool for writing?"
4. How to Use the App
- Enter your target participants (e.g., MA students).
- Input your construct and definition.
- Choose how many items you need (3-15).
- Review the AI-generated table, copy it into Word, and refine the statements before using them in your actual survey.
