For my research topic, I believe that a case study design is the most suitable qualitative approach. My study focuses on the use of educational games in Grade 6 English vocabulary lessons, particularly how these activities influence students’ engagement, motivation, and vocabulary retention in a specific classroom setting. A case study is appropriate because it allows me to investigate this issue in depth within one real-life context, such as a particular class or school.

One major strength of this design is that it can provide detailed and contextualized insights into the teaching and learning process. By collecting data through classroom observations, student interviews, and teacher reflections, I can gain a fuller understanding of how games are implemented and how students respond to them. This design also allows the use of multiple data sources, which helps improve the credibility of the findings.

However, one challenge is that the results may not be easily generalized to other contexts because the study focuses on a limited number of participants. In addition, gathering rich qualitative data can be time-consuming and requires careful interpretation.

For example, I might observe one Grade 6 class over several weeks while the teacher uses vocabulary games such as bingo, flashcard matching, and digital quizzes. After that, I would interview students to explore how these activities affect their interest and learning experience.
