This comment is based on the thesis ‘THE IMPACTS OF EDPUZZLE MOBILE APP ONLISTENING SKILL FOR NON-ENGLISH MAJORSTUDENTS AT SAIGONTECH COLLEGE’ by DINH TRAN THUY LIEU.

  1. I feel this thesis has an effective introduction as it includes the following key elements. First, it provides the necessary background information and defines the scope of the topic. It also points out a "gap" in existing knowledge and what is missing or needed to solve. Finally, the introduction states clearly how the thesis will fill that gap and explain the significance of the research.
  2. The author presented all key elements that are required for a good introduction. The background gives the full picture of research area, the new trend in new teaching methods, the recent developments in technology which can be used to improve English learning and teaching and there are accurate citations to help guide readers.

Then in the problem statement, the gap is presented clearly with how little research is done on the effectiveness of using interactive videos on mobile apps to improve students’ listening skills, and so there is the need to fill this gap to help students improve their skills.

In reseach aim section, the author clearly states the aim of the research by saying what the research is intended to explore and describe.

The research question is well-supported with research questions using concise language and specific independent variable and dependent variable.

In Relevance and Importance of the Research section, the author explained the significance of the reseach by stating the need for more research in using interactive apps to improve learners’ listening skills and providing teachers with a new tool for teaching.

3.      What I will adapt from this introduction for my own thesis is the research questions and problem statement.

Hi Thanh Phương,

You and I shared the same interest in the thesis, which is why this comment is going towards you.

From your analysis, I learned how important it is to clearly identify the research gap and explain the value of the study in the introduction. You did a good job pointing out the key elements that make the introduction effective.

I agree with your points, especially about the strong problem statement and research questions. I would also consider defining key terms and variables, as this can help guide the research design later on.

Wish you all the best!

I learned that a good introduction for a paper needs a clear plan. It should start with a broad topic and slowly move toward the main thing I want to study. Looking at these examples helped me see that the background, the problem, and the questions must all link together.

I agree with you because your explanation was easy to follow and made sense. I also think it is important to show why a study matters to different groups of people. This helps readers see why the work is useful and important.
