Research aim
- To assess the extent to which non-English major students perceive improvements in their English listening comprehension after using the Memrise app.
- To investigate the specific challenges that non-English major students face when integrating mobile app-based listening practice into their daily routines.
- To identify which specific features of the Memrise app are most effective in enhancing students' ability to understand native speakers
Research questions
1. To what extent does the MEMRISE app enhance listening skills for students?
2. How do the students perceive the MEMRISE app in listening activities?
Methodology
This study will adopt a mixed-methods approach.
- Quantitative data will be collected after participants have used the Memrise app for at least one course term, and a questionnaire administered to approximately 20 non-English major students.
- Qualitative data will include semi-structured interviews with around 6 students from different achievement levels.
- The two datasets will be analyzed separately and then integrated to provide a comprehensive understanding of students' improvement in listening.
