Dear Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyễn Ngọc Vũ,

After reading the two sample thesis introductions of "THE IMPACT OF CAKE APP ON ENHANCING TOEIC SPEAKING COMPETENCE FOR EFL LEARNERS AT A PRIVATE ENGLISH CENTER IN HO CHI MINH CITY" and "THE IMPACT OF THE CAKE APP ON 7TH GRADERS’ VOCABULARY LEARNING AT THUAN QUY SECONDARY SCHOOL", I personally prefer the sample thesis introduction of "THE IMPACT OF THE CAKE APP ON 7TH GRADERS’ VOCABULARY LEARNING AT THUAN QUY SECONDARY SCHOOL"

In the sample thesis of "THE IMPACT OF CAKE APP ON ENHANCING TOEIC SPEAKING COMPETENCE FOR EFL LEARNERS AT A PRIVATE ENGLISH CENTER IN HO CHI MINH CITY", the abbreviations, list of figures, and list of tables were stated very clearly, however, the Introduction in the thesis of "THE IMPACT OF THE CAKE APP ON 7TH GRADERS’ VOCABULARY LEARNING AT THUAN QUY SECONDARY SCHOOL" was divided detailly into more specific sections.

  • What makes this introduction effective?

Each section, with its specific content, is presented separately as a small paragraph with clear headings. Each section includes specific, detailed, and compelling evidence from a variety of sources. The Study followed the steps from background to the study, to statement of the problem and then the research objectives and questions. There was also a specific section for Significance and Rationale of the Study. The Definiton of the key terms was also stated as a seperate section. This makes the Study clear and easy to read and comprehend.

  • How are the backgroundproblem statementresearch questions, and significance presented?

In the Background, the Introduction particularly stated the aim of the Study, which is to delve into the specific perspective by investigating the impact of the Cake app tool on the vocabulary learning of 7th-grade students at Thuan Quy Secondary School. There were many original references used in the Study to help clarify this. The Background was also written in different paragraphs with the clear main idea in each part. This makes it easier for readers to follow and comprehend the clues of the candidate in presenting the background of the Study.

The Statement of the Problem in this sample introduction was separated into detailed aspects with many key issues (Efficacy of the Cake app, Engagement and Motivation, Learning Styles and Preferences, Long-term Retention, Integration with Classroom Instruction).

The Research Questions section of this sample thesis clearly stated the exact questions to answer the research objectives: To what extent the Cake app has brought an impact on vocabulary learning of 7th-grade students at Thuan Quy Secondary School, and the students' opinions and attitudes towards their vocabulary learning experience with the Cake app.

In the Significance of the Introduction, the Study presented the enhancement in education and improvement in vocabulary learning in two different sections, which clarified clearly that, by evaluating the effectiveness of the Cake app, the Study contributes to the improvement of vocabulary learning quality, specifically among 7th-grade students of Thuan Quy Secondary School, by providing a model for how digital tools can be used to achieve better educational goals.

Besides, there were many other parts included in the introduction (Research Objectives, Definition of the Key Terms, Rationale for the Study...) that support the introduction's clarity.

  • What will you borrow or adapt from this introduction for your own thesis?

Adapting the structure and transparency from this introduction would be helpful for my essay's clarity. Learning how to state the Statement of the Problem similarly to this sample introduction could also help clarify my study.

Dear Bảo Như,
Thanks to your analysis, I found that creating a separate section for the Definition of key terms may help make the study on specific topics less abstruse and more approachable for readers.
However, I partly agree with that point because I believe that section may also risk redundancy, or an overly rigid interpretation of contested concepts, if not carefully cited.
Best regards,
Phương Anh

Hi Như,
I think your analysis is very clear, especially the way you pointed out how the "Statement of the Problem" was broken down into specific aspects, which makes the introduction easier to follow. I also agree with you that separating sections like Background, Research Questions, and Significance helps the structure feel organized and reader-friendly. One thing I’d add is that the use of prior studies also strengthens the persuasiveness of the introduction.

By the way, I just want to mention that the task asked for under 200 words, but your answer seems a bit long. :D
