My research topic: Assessing Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) among English Majors: A Case Study at HUFLIT University.

Main Aim: To evaluate the current level of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) among English majors at HUFLIT and explore the relationship between their English proficiency and their perception of Vietnamese cultural identity.

Research questions:

RQ1: To what extent do English majors at HUFLIT possess Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) according to Byram’s five-dimensional model?

RQ2: How do students perceive the influence of English language acquisition on their Vietnamese cultural identity and their tendency toward "Westernization"?

Methodology:

This study will employ a Mixed-Methods Research (MMR) design.

Dear Yen Nhi,
I find your topic quite interesting because it shares some similarities with my research, especially in terms of intercultural communication. Both studies look at how students use English in cross-cultural contexts, which makes your topic feel very relevant to the HUFLIT learning environment.
Your topic is clear and feasible, and the use of Byram’s model provides a solid theoretical foundation. To further narrow the research questions, you might consider focusing on specific dimensions of ICC or limiting the discussion of cultural identity to certain communication situations. From my personal perspective, linking ICC more closely to students’ real intercultural interactions, such as participating in international exchange activities or interacting with international students on campus, could make the study even more practical.
Of course, this is just my personal suggestion, and you may consider using it if you find it suitable for your research.
