As a student, I found that writing clear aims and objectives dissertation sections was more challenging than I expected. At first, I kept repeating the same idea in different words, not realizing that aims and objectives serve different purposes. I learned that the aim should be one broad statement explaining the overall purpose of the research. The objectives, however, need to be specific, actionable steps that guide how the aim will be achieved. Keeping them separate became easier when I asked myself: “What do I want to achieve?” for the aim, and “How will I achieve it?” for the objectives. This simple approach helped me avoid confusion and create a clearer, more focused dissertation structure.
