Based on the questionnaire, the EFA is expected to produce a three-factor structure:

  • Factor 1: Frequency and variety of using complex sentence structures
  • Factor 2: Perceived accuracy and confidence
  • Factor 3: Challenges in using complex sentences

These groupings make theoretical sense because they match the main sections of the questionnaire and reflect different aspects of students’ academic writing ability. There may be some cross-loadings, especially between accuracy and challenges, since students who lack confidence may also experience more difficulty. However, the overall structure is still clear and interpretable.

Your factor structure is clear and easy to understand. I agree that the three factors make theoretical sense because they match the main sections of the questionnaire quite well. I also think your point about possible cross-loadings between accuracy/confidence and challenges is reasonable, since these aspects can overlap in real learning situations. Maybe one thing you could add is whether the actual EFA results fully matched your expected structure or if there were any items that loaded differently than expected.
