Title: A Contrastive Analysis of Final Consonant Systems in English and Vietnamese: Pedagogical Implications for Vietnamese Learners.
Research Aim: The primary objective of this study is to identify the phonetic and phonological differences between the final consonant systems of English and Vietnamese. By pinpointing these disparities, the research aims to predict and explain common pronunciation errors made by Vietnamese EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students.
Research Questions:
What are the key structural and distributional differences between final consonants in English and Vietnamese?
To what extent do these differences contribute to the pronunciation difficulties faced by Vietnamese learners?
Methodology:
This study adopts a qualitative approach utilizing Contrastive Analysis (CA). I will perform a systematic comparison of existing linguistic data from both languages. Additionally, a small-scale descriptive analysis of learner speech samples will be used to illustrate how the absence of certain final consonants in Vietnamese leads to deletion or substitution in English.

Option 1: For a classmate with a broad topic
"Hi there! Your topic is very interesting and highly relevant to our current linguistic landscape. In terms of feasibility, the scope seems a bit broad for the given timeframe. Have you considered narrowing your focus to a specific age group or a particular set of phonemes? For example, instead of 'general pronunciation,' you might focus specifically on 'sibilants' or 'clusters.' This might help sharpen your research questions and make your data collection more manageable. Great start!"
Option 2: For a classmate with a narrow topic
"Great post! Your research title is very clear, and the objectives are well-defined. It definitely seems feasible as you have a specific target variable. Would it help to define the proficiency level of your participants more strictly (e.g., beginner vs. advanced)? This could offer more depth to your findings, as errors often shift as learners progress. Also, you might want to consider if regional dialects (Northern vs. Southern Vietnamese) could impact your results. Looking forward to seeing your progress!"
